How clean is your house?

For me there is a fine line between a house that is tidy and a house that is clean. I'll put my cards on the table and admit that I am more tidy then clean. There is dust in my house, the odd crumb or bit of detritus on the floor and, more often then not, a ring around the bathtub or sink. However, I am tidy. My house is not littered with dirty plates, discarded clothes and empty pizza boxes. I don't wade through a foot of old post and newspapers when I come through the front door.

So which is better? Or should you be both tidy and clean? The reason I ask is because my Dad is coming to stay tomorrow night and his arrival is heralded by my frantic efforts to make the house 'presentable'. Thinking about it though, when I visit my Mum and Dad's house I don't run my fingers over the surfaces to check for dust, don't pry in cupboards to see where all the rubbish has been temporarily stashed. So why do I assume that my Dad will do that when he stays with me?

'Take a stand!' I hear my lazy, little inner-demons cry and so I have. Or at least a compromise...

Bathroom cleaned (no ring around the tub), clean sheets (that one is a must really) and a quick whip round with the hoover is all I'm going to do. There will be no floors washed, no obscure corners dusted and definitely no extra tidying. Instead, I'll use the free time to enjoy a glass of wine, relax on the sofa and type this blog. Sod cleanliness, throw another dusty pea in the soup!
